Very Happy Continuing from last year's program on this war with five different veterans was exciting to hear at the local library. Refreshments were homemade sweet treats and tea and coffee were provided.

The veterans reviewed their positions and opinions. Here is a recap from the brochure HONORING OUR VETERANS: Infantryman recalled the battle for Tettingen and Butzdorf; Flying Tiger was captured in China but managed to escape; 81 missions was flown in a P-47 Thunderbolt; liberated those within the concentration camps; and a bombardier in a B-17 Flying Fortress Bomber. These veterans were stationed within Europe, where the action was.

Some audience participants recalled their positions during this war. One vet claimed his position was "in the finest of cities" compared to the panel of five. One question about current wars was answered swiftly for "removal of the troops." Another comment claimed that good citizens need to speak up so that the enemy is corralled. Another claimed his Pop told him to be glad he was born in this country, after his father experienced a variety of work in this war.

It is noted on this brochure that "Soldiers could be seen standing guard in front of stores along Big Basin Way." On other streets "roll call" was being performed and military trucks were seen driving down Saratoga Avenue. "The troops arrived in December 1941" and within a couple of months they moved to a northern city where they were later sent oversees.

Perhaps next year the vet's wives or sisters could recall their positions. Also today another museum docent commented that his wife has beginnings with Bainbridge Island during this war. He mentioned the 1999 film SNOW FALLING ON CEDARS which involves this war, Japanese and Caucasians.
